My Birth Story and Journey to Empowering People like You!

Expectations vs. Reality

When I was expecting my first baby in 2014, I thought I knew what to expect during birth. I'd seen it all on TV and heard countless stories from friends and family. But when the time came, reality hit me hard, and it wasn't what I'd imagined.

Induction and Complications

At 37 weeks, I thought my waters had broken, and one thing led to another and I quickly found myself on a rollercoaster ride of intervention. I was induced, in pain and completely out of my depth. I consented to things I knew nothing about nor did I know what they’d mean for my birth and the time afterwards. Because of my lack of knowledge, I didn’t feel empowered to ask questions or what I could do to actually make my induction a positive experience.

My Physical and Emotional Struggles

After giving birth to my beautiful baby girl, I faced challenges I hadn't prepared for. From days in hospital, to trips back into theatre, struggling to bond with my baby to battling severe headaches caused by a Dural puncture when my Epidural didn’t work, I felt overwhelmed and incapable. Even breastfeeding became a struggle, with unhelpful responses and a lock of support from my healthcare providers adding to my stress.

Healing and Learning Lessons

Despite the difficulties, I later found healing through support and education. I learned the importance of advocating for myself and building up my knowledge so that I could make informed decisions. The stuff I learned on a Hypnobirthing course helped me immensely during the birth of my second baby, and afterwards I uncovered a deep passion within me to empower others to challenge the status quo through evidence-based education and personalised support.

Moving Forward: Empowering Others and Creating Change

My journey to motherhood was tough, but it taught me valuable lessons. By sharing my story, I hope to inspire others to seek support, advocate for themselves, and rewrite the narrative of childbirth.
